Using the iPad as a Workstation
# ScrapRight Training Guide
**Using Your iPad as a Workstation (iScraprite App)**
This guide shows how to use an iPad as a full-featured workstation in ScrapRight — whether as an additional device, your primary setup, a kiosk, or even for mobile use by drivers purchasing materials on the road (e.g., wheels, radiators, catalytic converters, etc.). Many yards run entirely on iPads with great success.
The **iScraprite** app lets you create tickets, add materials, take photos, capture signatures/fingerprints, pay out customers, print weight tickets or checks, and more — all directly from the iPad.
### Key Benefits of Using iPad as a Workstation
- Mobile flexibility (drivers can buy material in the field)
- Quick material entry with group buttons and search
- Built-in camera for photos of material/vehicle
- Support for Bluetooth printers, network printers, scales, and IP cameras
- Full ticketing and payout capabilities
- Seamless sync with the desktop/web version
### Step-by-Step Instructions (iPad Workflow)
#### 1. Open the iScraprite App and Start a New Ticket
- Launch the **iScraprite** app on your iPad (ensure it’s connected to your ScrapRight database — see the previous guide for setup).
- You’ll land on the main **Ticketing** screen.
#### 2. Find or Add a Customer
1. Use the **search bar** at the top to look up an existing customer (e.g., type “Frank”).
2. Alternatively:
- Navigate through ID types (driver’s license, etc.)
- Tap **Scan** to scan a new ID or barcode
3. Select the customer (e.g., “Frank Banana”).
4. View full customer details:
- Vehicles on file
- Phone, fax, email (tap to send email)
- Option to capture **signature**, **fingerprint**, **photo of customer**, or **vehicle photo**
- Scan barcode if needed
#### 3. Add Materials to the Ticket
1. Use the **quick group buttons** at the top or bottom of the screen to jump to common categories (e.g., yellow tone, stainless steel, catalytic converters).
2. Add items manually or by search:
- Example 1: Tap **Yellow Tone** → enter weight (e.g., 99 lbs) → take a photo of the material.
- Example 2: Search or tap **Catalytic Converters** group → select subcategory (e.g., Exotic, Domestic, Aftermarket, 4DOT, Foreign Small, Diesel, Camry, Jumbo Beat, etc.) → add quantities.
- Example 3: Add **Stainless Steel – No Prep** → enter weight (e.g., 33 lbs) → take a photo.
3. Continue adding as many items as needed.
#### 4. Review and Finalize the Ticket
- Preview the ticket total and items.
- (Optional) Use tools at the bottom:
- Add cash to a register box
- Configure printers (Bluetooth, belt printer, desktop/network)
- Connect IP cameras or direct scale reading
#### 5. Pay or Complete the Ticket from the iPad
You have several options:
1. Tap **Pay Ticket**:
- Pay directly from the app (cash, check, advance, etc.).
- Split payments if needed (e.g., part cash, part check).
2. Print a **weight ticket** and send the customer to the cashier for payout.
3. **Complete** the ticket without printing if no immediate payout is needed.
The ticket is saved and synced instantly to the system.
### Viewing and Paying the Ticket on Desktop (Optional Follow-Up)
1. Switch to your desktop/web ScrapRight application.
2. Go to **Open Tickets**.
3. Find the customer (e.g., “Frank Banana”).
4. Open the ticket — all items, photos, weights, and notes entered from the iPad appear exactly the same.
5. (Catalytic converter buyers only): View **predictive assay results** for estimated platinum, palladium, and rhodium content.
6. Proceed to payout:
- Choose payment method (e.g., auto-check, split cash/check).
- Complete the payment.
### Best Practices
- Use the iPad’s camera liberally — photos of material and vehicles help with verification and disputes.
- Drivers on the road: Take full advantage of mobile payouts and weight ticket printing.
- Set up Bluetooth scales and printers in advance for fastest workflow.
- Train staff to use quick group buttons — they save a lot of time.
- For yards running **only iPads**, assign dedicated workstations/users in the admin panel.
That’s how easy it is to use your iPad as a powerful ScrapRight workstation — in the yard, at a kiosk, or on the go!
