ScrapRight 101: Introduction, Login, and Software Overview
Welcome to ScrapRight 101 — the starting point for new users. This guide provides a high-level tour of the ScrapRight interface, login process, and main screens. It helps you get familiar with the layout before diving into detailed setup in later videos (e.g., ScrapRight 102: Compliance & Organization Settings).
Goal of This Module
- Understand how to log in (cloud-hosted or local server).
- Get oriented with the Dashboard and key tabs.
- Recognize major features and where they live so future training makes sense.
1. Logging In to ScrapRight
ScrapRight is a web-based application (works in any modern browser; Google Chrome is recommended for best performance).
- Cloud-Hosted Users (most common):
- You'll receive an email from ScrapRight with your unique web address (e.g., yourbusinessname.scrapright.com).
- Open the link in Chrome.
- Local/On-Premise Server Users:
- After server installation and network setup, access via the internal IP or hostname (e.g., http://192.168.x.x or servername.local).
- Contact ScrapRight support if you need help pointing to the server.
- Credentials:
- Use the setup/admin user provided in your welcome email.
- Change password immediately after first login for security.
Once logged in, you land on the Dashboard — your home screen.
2. The Dashboard (Home Screen)
The Dashboard gives a quick business snapshot.
Key Elements:
- Top Left: Dashboard label + quick stats
- Aggregate data: Pounds of non-ferrous, ferrous, other materials purchased.
- Ticket count, customer count, business count.
- Catalytic converters purchased, vehicles (if configured as a material type).
- Adjustable date range (default: today; change to view historical totals).
- Right Side – Support & Resources:
- ScrapRight Help Desk: Submit tickets, view open ticket status (create a help desk account if needed).
- FAQ, tutorials, and training videos (like this series).
- Links to Buy Side, Inventory, Hardware/IoT (container dispatch & tracking), Admin/Configuration.
- Support hours, phone number, voicemail → auto-creates ticket.
- Message Center: Urgent announcements from ScrapRight (e.g., updates, outages).
- Product spotlight + link to ScrapRight store.
3. Main Navigation Tabs Overview
Transactions / Ticketing Tab
Your daily core operations hub.
- Ticketing Screen — Create new tickets (main buying screen).
- Accounts Payable, Check Register.
- Inventory quick access.
- ATM Transactions (if using ATM payouts).
- NVIDIS / Full-Size Ticket Entry.
- AP Review, Admin Ticket Review.
- Customer Display — Extra monitor for customers to watch ticket build in real time (shows enlarged receipt).
- QuickBooks sync transactions.
- Manual Check Entry (pay non-ticket items like vendors/IT via ScrapRight checks for easy accounting sync).
Ticketing Screen Layout (once materials are added):
- Left: Your logo, current user, ticket date/start time.
- Customer section: Scan license → auto-fills ID info + photo; edit vehicle/plate; attach notes/files; take vehicle/seller photos.
- Material folders/groups (e.g., Aluminum, Brass, Copper, Iron, Stainless, Lead, Misc, Cats).
- Click folder → shows materials in that category.
- Pay screen captures additional images/signature (per compliance rules).
Materials Tab
Where you define what you buy/sell.
- Materials — List all individual items (prices, descriptions).
- Material Groups — Organize into categories (e.g., Iron group → Steel material). Setup groups first, then add materials.
- Price Lists — Create special pricing:
- Global: Applies to everyone (e.g., temporary bump for high-volume steel to fill a contract).
- Qualified: Assigned to specific customers (e.g., electricians, plumbers, loyal peddlers get extra per pound).
Customers Tab
Two types for compliance & organization:
- Businesses — Companies with licenses; exempt from most peddler compliance (no ID/photo required in many states).
- Customers (Peddlers/Individuals) — Everyone else; full compliance (ID scan, photos, signature, age check, etc.).
Reports Tab
Powerful analytics — run reports on almost anything:
- Purchase summaries, cashier reconciliation.
- Customer history (top customers, visit frequency, payouts).
- Inventory, ATM, employee/time clock (if enabled).
- Compliance uploads, transaction details.
Configuration / Admin Tab
Backend setup (detailed in ScrapRight 102+):
- Compliance rules (photos, ID, signature, age, vehicle plate, etc.).
- Organization settings (ticket numbering, pay preferences, rounding, checks).
- Users & Permissions (who can do what — lock down price changes, AP visibility).
- Backup/Restore, Upload History (state/federal reporting).
- Ticket Builder (disclaimer on receipts; future custom layouts).
- My Billing (add modules like inventory).
- Hardware/Peripherals (cameras, scanners, scales, printers).
- Workstations (define scale stations, AP desk, etc.).
- Contamination buttons (dock for dirt, trash, moisture).
- Auto/Manual Uploads (to state portals like Texas DPS, Ohio, etc.).
- Cash Drawer setup (multi-drawer, vault, count-down prompts).
- ATM configuration (cassettes, low-bill warnings).
- Synchronization (QuickBooks, Peachtree, etc.).
Quick Tips for New Users
