Material Configuration Deep Dive

# ScrapRight Training Guide
**Material Configuration Tab: Advanced Options When Creating/Editing Materials**

This guide explains the **Configuration** tab inside a material's setup screen in ScrapRight. When adding or editing a material (Materials tab > Materials > Add/Edit), switch from **Basic Info** to **Configuration** to access checkboxes and dropdowns that control special behaviors, compliance, inventory handling, reporting, and more.

These options fine-tune how the material is bought/sold, tracked, and processed — especially for vehicles, catalytic converters, precious metals, auto-regrades, state-specific rules (e.g., CRV, tag & hold), and advanced workflows.

**Access Path**
1. Go to **Materials** tab.
2. Select **Materials** (main list).
3. Click **Add Material** or open an existing one (e.g., "Extrusion").
4. Switch to **Configuration** tab.

**Important Notes**
- Some options are state-specific (e.g., Texas VIN, Hawaii High Five, PA CRV).
- Not all checkboxes apply to every yard — only enable what matches your operations/compliance.
- Test changes: Create a test ticket after saving to verify behavior.
- Unknown/unused options (e.g., some checkboxes mentioned as "not sure"): Contact ScrapRight support for clarification or check release notes.

## Configuration Tab Options Explained

### Vehicle & Compliance Checkboxes

- **VIN**
Requires VIN entry on ticket when this material is selected.
Use for: Vehicles, catalytic converters in states like Texas (mandatory VIN for cats).

- **Cat** (Catalytic Converter)
Enables quick "cat button" mode on ticketing screen.
  - Tap button repeatedly (e.g., 8 times for 8 cats).
  - Takes one photo at end (all cats together).
  - Supports quarter/half/three-quarter/whole purchases.

- **Battery**
Legacy/no longer functional (per video). Ignore or leave unchecked.

- **Fee / Junkyard Fee**
Links to ticketing fees set in Organization tab.
Applies specific fees (e.g., processing/junkyard charge) when this material is on ticket.

- **Precious Metal**
Marks as precious (gold, silver, etc.).
  - Restricts visibility: Only shows on **precious metal workstations** or for precious metal users.
  - Helps segregate high-value/compliance-sensitive items.

- **Must Be Regraded**
  Forces regrade prompt/selection before weighing/processing.
Ensures material is properly classified (e.g., upgrade from dirty to clean).

- **Auto Regrade**
Enables automatic percentage-based splitting when purchased.
  - Adds **Auto Regrade** tab (appears after checking).
  - Set % splits (e.g., 25% to Material A, 25% B, 25% C, 25% D).
  - Example: Buy 100 lb → auto-allocates 25 lb each to four different inventory materials.
  - Great for mixed loads (e.g., dirty copper → clean copper + brass + contaminants).

### Buy/Sell & Inventory Type

- **Buy / Sell / Buy & Sell** (dropdown)
  - **Buy**: Inbound purchases only.
  - **Sell**: Outbound sales only.
  - **Buy & Sell**: Both directions.

- **WIP / Finished Good / Both**
  - **WIP (Work In Process / Loose)**: Standard loose inbound material.
  - **Finished Good**: Requires packaged form (e.g., bale, bundle); allows package label creation directly from ticketing screen.
  - **Both**: Pops up choice on ticket: "Buy as WIP loose or Finished Good?"

### Other Specialized Checkboxes

- **Plastic Bank**
Routes to special plastic bank report (rarely used).

- **Tag and Hold**
Enables **Tag & Hold** button on ticketing for this material.
  - Required in some localities (e.g., hold material 3 days for police review).
  - In Organization > Configuration: Set recipients (email/print tag) and actions (notify user or print physical tag).

- **Skip Picture**
Disables auto-photo capture for this material (overrides global compliance).

- **Auto Parts**
  Categorizes for auto parts reporting/tracking.

- **Require Number of Packages** (Finished Goods only)
Forces entry of minimum package count (instead of weighing each individually).

- **Allow Material to Be Fulfilled by Others on a Sales Order**
Permits fulfillment from alternate sources/inventory (exact behavior may vary — confirm with support).

- **Catalyst** / **High Five** (Hawaii-specific)
  - Catalyst: Likely catalytic converter flag (overlap with "Cat").
  - High Five: Hawaii-specific fee/compliance (similar to CRV in other states).

- **Non-Refundable**
  Prevents refund/credit on this material.

- **Exclude from Inventory**
Removes from inventory tracking (e.g., non-stock items).

- **Scrap Points**
Enables points earning for loyalty program (see Scrap Points guide).
  - Set points per pound (or unit).

- **Vehicle Quote** / **Freight Charge**
Links to vehicle quoter or freight setup (for quoting/selling).

- **U-Fill Placeholder** / **SAL**
Specialized placeholders (unclear usage — consult support).

- **Exclude from CRV Exempt**
Excludes from CRV (California Redemption Value) exempt report.

- **Requires Tare**
Forces tare weight entry before proceeding.

- **Paid by Check**
Forces check payment for tickets containing this material (or splits amount to check).

- **Tare Button**
Links to tare container buttons set in Organization (e.g., specific bins for this material).

- **Daily Load Limit**
Caps daily purchase weight (e.g., CRV limits or state copper rules).

- **Include in Specific Police Report**
  Adds to designated police/export report.

- **Can Be Sorted**
Prompts "Are you sorting this material?" popup before weighing.

- **Count Limit**
Sets piece/count limit (similar to daily load but by count).

- **Minimum Weight Compliance**
  Requires minimum weight before credit/payout.

- **Tax Code** / **New PRS** (mapping)
Tax or form mapping (state-specific; consult support).

### Advanced / Linked Features

- **Linked Material**
For finished goods/shipping: Enables on-the-fly regrade/breakdown (e.g., reclassify steel load).

- **Grading Material**
Likely for grading/regrade workflows (rarely used per video).

## Best Practices & Tips

- **Start Simple**: Only enable checkboxes you need — test one at a time.
- **Compliance First**: VIN, Cat, Tag & Hold, Daily Limit — match your state laws (e.g., Texas cats need VIN).
- **Auto Regrade Power**: Use for mixed/dirty loads to auto-allocate value accurately.
- **Precious Metals**: Restrict to secure workstations.
- **Testing**: After save → create test ticket with material → verify prompts, inventory impact, reports.
- **Unsure Options**: "Not sure" items (e.g., Catalyst, Grading, U-Fill) — reach out to ScrapRight support with material name for clarification.

This tab unlocks ScrapRight's power for specialized materials — vehicles, cats, precious metals, auto-regrades, and state compliance.
