Intercompany Transfers of material

# ScrapRight Training Guide
**Intercompany Inventory Transfer (New Feature in Version 2)**

This guide covers the **Intercompany Transfer** feature in ScrapRight Version 2 — a powerful tool for multi-location yards or companies. It allows seamless movement of inventory (loose material or finished goods/packages) between different locations/sites while maintaining accurate tracking, costing, and audit trails.

**Use Cases**
- Transfer material from main yard to satellite location to fulfill a sales order/contract.
- Balance inventory across sites (e.g., move excess to a location with demand).
- Supports both **loose inventory** (WIP) and **finished goods** (packaged bales, bundles, etc.).

**Prerequisites**
- Multiple locations set up in ScrapRight (e.g., "Main Location" and "ScrapRight QA Test Location").
- Access to **Sales Orders** and **Shipper** tab (requires inventory/shipping module).
- Materials already exist in inventory at the source location.

## Step-by-Step: Performing an Intercompany Transfer

1. **Log in and Switch to the Source Location**
   - Use the location selector (usually top or sidebar) to switch to the **source** location where the material currently resides (e.g., "Main Location").
   - Verify inventory:
     - Go to **Inventory** screen.
     - Locate the material (e.g., "Test 1,2,4" with 28 lb available).

2. **Create or Open a Sales Order for Transfer**
   - Navigate to **Sales Orders** (under Sales/Shipping or Inventory tab).
   - Open an existing sales order or create a new one if needed (for transfer purposes).
   - Switch to the **Shipper** tab (packing list/shipment creation area).

3. **Enable Intercompany Transfer Mode**
   - Check the box labeled **Intercompany Transfer** (or similar — this flags the shipment as internal movement, not external sale).
   - Select the **Destination Location** from the dropdown (e.g., "ScrapRight QA Test Location").

4. **Add Material to the Transfer Packing List**
   - In the packing list/shipment section:
     - Search/add the material (e.g., "Test 1,2,4").
     - Enter the **quantity** to transfer (e.g., 25 lb out of 28 lb available).
       - Leave some behind if desired (system allows partial transfers).
   - For **Finished Goods/Packages**:
     - Drag-and-drop or lookup existing packages/bales.
     - Add them to the packing list as needed.

5. **Initiate the Transfer**
   - Review the packing list: material, quantity, source/destination.
   - Click **Transfer** (or **Initiate Transfer** / **Transfer Packing List** button).
   - Confirm the action (system may prompt: "Yes, transfer this packing list").
   - Success message appears (e.g., "Successfully transferred").

6. **Verify at the Destination Location**
   - Switch location selector to the **destination** (e.g., "ScrapRight QA Test").
   - Go to **Inventory** screen.
   - Scroll/search for the material — the transferred amount appears (e.g., 25 lb of "Test 1,2,4" now shows here).
   - Check totals: Source location deducts 25 lb; destination adds 25 lb.

## Key Notes & Best Practices

- **Loose vs. Finished Goods**: Works identically — loose inventory deducts/adds weight; finished goods move entire packages (with weights intact).
- **No Pricing Impact**: Intercompany transfers are internal — no sales price or invoice generated (unlike external shipments).
- **Audit Trail**: Transfers create records in both locations for traceability (useful for COGS, position reporting, compliance).
- **Partial Transfers**: Supported — transfer only what you need; remainder stays at source.
- **Multi-Location Setup**: Ensure locations are properly configured (Admin > Configuration > Locations or similar — contact support if missing).
- **Troubleshooting**:
  - Material not appearing? Confirm location switch and refresh inventory.
  - Transfer button grayed out? Ensure intercompany box is checked and quantity ≤ available.
  - Errors? Check material exists at source and you have permissions.

This feature streamlines operations for multi-site yards — no more manual adjustments or duplicate entries!

**Next Steps**
- Practice in a test database/location.
- Explore related features: Sales Contracts, Packing Lists/BOLs, Inventory Adjustments.
- Questions? Submit via Help Desk (Dashboard > Help Desk) — include location names and material codes.
